Our 5 Favorite Cirque du Soleil Shows

With its bright lights, vibrant costumes, and breathtaking performances, Cirque du Soleil is quintessentially Vegas.

This modern circus was established in 1984 by two street performers in Montreal; and since its inception, it has grown to become the largest theatrical producer in the world. At present, seven of their 20 European-inspired circuses are in Las Vegas. Their shows cover themes and elements that include water, air, war, and everything in between, all while incorporating historical martial arts, aerial performances, and abstract dreamscape routines.

Whether you’re looking for the perfect date spot or a night out with friends, a Cirque du Soleil show is an evening you’ll never forget. Here are our five favorite Cirque du Soleil shows currently playing in Vegas.

1. Mystère

Mystère is the definition of a classic Cirque du Soleil show: stunning physical performances combined with an unceasingly silly vibe. Hosted at Treasure Island, this imagination-inspired show has a tagline perfectly describes what you’ll be in for: “laugh along with life.” It’s jam-packed with colorful costumes, incredible athletic feats, and slapstick humor that promises to keep you entertained.

Mystère was the first permanent Cirque du Soleil production in Vegas; and if you’ve never seen one of these modern circus productions, this show is the perfect place to start. Mystère is also one of the most family-friendly options if you are looking for something that appeals to a mixed crowd.

2. KÀ

If you like to follow along with a good plot, is the choice for you. Many of Cirque du Soleil’s shows are abstract and whimsical, but KÀ is a coming of age story that follows a set of twins on an incredible journey toward a linked destiny.

Along the way, the characters pursue adventure, love, war, and victory on a colossal, 360° moving stage that changes your perspective as the story progresses.

A technical masterpiece with mind-blowing martial arts and acrobatic fight scenes, KÀ might be the most action-packed Cirque du Soleil performance. If adrenaline is what you’re looking for, you can find it in the KÀ performance at MGM Grand.

3. ‘O’

Whereas Mystère and KÀ manipulate the stage, ‘O’ completely changes your perception of a traditional performance stage — the entire show takes place in and above a 1.5 million gallon tank of water, which was specifically built to accommodate the show.

The stage drops into and lifts out of the water throughout the performance, continually changing your awareness. Some scenes take place on the seemingly solid ground, while other parts involve synchronized swimming or performers “walking on water.”

It takes a total of 122 technicians to support the 75 performers throughout the show; keeping everyone safe and keeping the equipment running smoothly for a seemingly effortless show.

You can find this timeless aquatic show at the Bellagio, where it has been exclusively performed since 1998.

4. The Beatles LOVE

Beatlemania is still going strong if the popularity of The Beatles LOVE is any indication! Whether you’re a fan of Paul, John, George, or Ringo, or if you love a good musical, LOVE is the perfect Cirque du Soleil show for you.

Described as a “Rock ‘n’ Roll poem,” LOVE is a performance that offers a good blend of story and sensation as it follows the band members through their musical influence on the 1960s. The strong plot is illustrated by fantastic physical feats, amazing characters, and a Grammy Award-winning soundtrack.

With recently revamped costumes and choreography, LOVE is worth seeing again if you haven’t seen it recently — or if you want to be brought back to the spirit of the ‘60s in style. You can find it showing at a custom-built theater at The Mirage.

5. Zumanity

Perhaps even more about love than the LOVE performance itself, Zumanity is the first Cirque du Soleil show to deliver an intense, sensual performance. This cabaret-style production is adult-themed, with provocative acrobatics and voyeuristic displays that take a bold look at intimacy and human sexuality.

If you’re feeling open-minded, you can find Zumanity at New York-New York Hotel and Casino. Note: this performance is only for audience members 18 years and older!

Whichever performance you choose, it’s easy to include a Cirque du Soleil show in your evening plans when you are staying at Sky Condos. The condos are a short drive or quick cab away from most of the venues for the Cirque du Soleil performances. And if you’re feeling hungry after the show, be sure to check out some of the great new restaurants in the area, too!
